OT: Simple Pleasures

We all know the pleasures and effort of cycling have benefits for physical and mental health. But what are some other simple pleasures in life that make you feel good off the bike? I can name a few, but lately...

Sitting on the patio at twilight on a clear night with my daughter, talking and relaxing in Adirondack chairs watching bats and fireflies circling out over our property in the fading light. Special moments.

What simple pleasure make you feel good?

-A quiet walk in the woods, hills, or mountains.
-The quiet of the house in the morning before anyone else wakes up.
-The smell of coffee brewing.
-The sound of birds waking up in the morning.
-Cold days (especially appreciated and missed this time of year).
-A twilight swim.
-The smell of old, German sports sedans.
-My kids' laughter.

Ahh the sounds of mother in law announcing that dinner's ready, come eat....yet another meal of overcooked formerly-meat-like resemblance....

i second this. i now find it therapeutic to get up early and make coffee in my chemex pot. grinding the beans with a hand grinder, waiting for the water to heat up, the first sip of good brew. all in golden silence. it's beautiful.

Lying in bed with my kids reading them a bed time story until they fall asleep. Joy.

The thing that makes me the most happiest is spending time in my workshop building guitars. I completely get lost in there and sometimes don't realize that I've been working till 1am and have to get to bed.

Perhaps not a simple pleasure but one none the less.

always enjoyed

Pushing my daughter in the stroller just walking about. Even better if there are yard sales.

On the coffee front...

Fresh roasted coffee beans, thick golden crema oozing into a shot glass....mmmmm.

Guilty of this as well, thankfully.

My kids laughing, a nice cool breeze through the house, the sound of dogs snoring, holding hands with my wife, a well made cup of coffee...

Thankful to have so many wonderful, simple things.

Sunbathing with a steady stream of tasty alcohol

Erik Satie

Good bourbon.. likey a little too much, though... don't get to indulge that one much anymore.

Listening to my oldest play a solemn piano solo.

Quiet Time - which is the time between the end of dinner and bedtime, in the Dead People house. Tummy full of my wife's delicious cooking and lots of wine, the day's woes finally being released.. kids strewn about the place quietly reading books, one or two sitting in my lap at the table, listening to a baroque chamber classic or sacred choral piece.. love Quiet Time.

Sitting on the cushion in the late night or early morning stillness.

'The long night,
the sound of the water
says what I think'.
