Another "deal" site closing...Whiskey Militia

Just got this emai...

It’s been great, but we’re moving on, maybe to that great 404 page in the sky. We are closing our doors on Tuesday, March 28. You deserve better—you deserve Steep&Cheap. It offers the same great discounts you’ve enjoyed during our time together, plus so much more: browsing by category, product search, and a way, WAY bigger selection. Within a few days you’ll be like, “Whiskey who?” and satisfying your craving for deals on gear, clothing, and accessories on Steep&Cheap.

They were always both owned by backcountry.com, it makes sense that they're continuing to consolidate after closing their other sites.

Seems like they had several more. I remember Chain Love was one of them. I see the reason, but it was nice to have the narrow focus on a particular market if you were watching their one deal at a time.

Chain Love was great. When they consolidated there wasn't any point following them further because the fifteen-minute deals were almost never bike stuff anymore.

In the day, steep and cheap and then chainlove did have some great deals. so I would score one, get hooked, and then find myself wasting time without realizing another deal for quite awhile. typical deal-addiction behavior. I finally just deleted the site off my browser since the occasional deal and savings did not offset the induced opportunistic purchasing and time-sink. I can do that just fine reading paceline (and paceline classifieds)....

I met a guy who worked for steep and cheap a number of years ago and he told me manufacturers started realizing they could sell the same stuff cheap directly so the model wasn't long for the world. There were some amazing deals in the early days of steep and cheap.

I agree, there were some good deals at the beginning. As pdmtong mentioned, it took too much time to track this and I stopped checking these very often.
