Cushy bar tape....

Re-wrapping the bar tape on my gravel bike in a few days. Like it a little cushier than my road bikes. Currently using either Lizardskin 2.5 or Handlebra on pavement bikes and Lizardskin 3.2 on gravel bike. Was going to just replace gravel rig with LS 3.2 as I've been very happy with performance and feel(same w/2.5) over the past 2 years, but thought i better check in with the experts to see it there was anything new and cushy out there.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I'm a fan of Bontrager Gel Cork tape. Cushy, long wearing and now comes in quite a variety of colors AND patterns (zig zag, dots, stripes).

Zelvin 40 tape (also marketed by Josh at NFS). Best padded stuff I've ever used. Wide enough to pretty much double-wrap, so you can tune the amount of cush you want.

Can't remember if it was here or a different forum recently there was a Lizard Skinz thread; my general takeaway was that people either love it or hate it. (I'm in the latter camp.)

If you've had positive experiences with it I don't think there's anything new that's going to be a big difference.

Fizik Gel Pads + Roll of Cloth Tape + Roll of favorite regular thickness tape on top = Gravel and Mountain comfort for me.

This stuff or Supacaz both have some cush and a good amount of durability. Much better than the Lizard Skins I've tried. The bontrager stuff mentioned above as also pretty good.

My recent experience (and by recent I mean a year ago) was slipping on sweaty/wet cork (?) tape that came on my Fargo - swapped it out real quick for cotton tape.

What's better that's not cotton? I use Newbaum's on all my bikes but thinking something else for my single speed upcoming..

if you just want cush, you can do a bar gels under the tape or double tape. i found that to be too thick for my liking tho.
recently i tried the fizik performance tape. it far cushier than i expected and worth a shot if you prefer a 'normal' diameter bar
they have several flavors of tape. the one i'm referring to looks like this

I agree. Its nice and thick and has a rubbery kind of feel rather than the regular cork feel. I have the black/white stripes.

Is this the performance - classic, soft touch or tacky touch?

Agree bar gels make it too big.

hrm.. unsure. if i had to say, i'd go with soft touch. it is not tacky, more like matte leather finish. dunno what they call classic tho...

The all city tape is cushy and tacky. Unsure of durability or who makes it but it feels good on my gravel bikes

Supacaz

For me, Supacaz is plenty cushy and durable.

I picked up some brooks rubber tape and put it on a bike. Only three rides so far, but felt OK on our crappy roads.
