Listening when? While riding?

Maybe I'm just old, but the idea of riding a bike without clear, open ears, alert to my surroundings, is counter-intuitive to me, if not simply dangerous.

I've noticed that speakers, rather than ear buds, are gaining in popularity for cyclists.

Is that what the respondants to this thread are using?

What's your fave mc5 album just out of curiosity.
I'm constantly changing my mind.

And also no headphones for riding over here. Home stereo set up

Never even crossed my mind anyone was talking about while riding a bike.

I don't listen to music while riding, these days, because all of my riding is training or racing or riding with bros... and it's engaging, intense.. or at least fun, when bro-riding... so music is of no use. But man.. back when I commuted long miles, I absolutely had to have music. Sometimes I'd even watch TV on the bike - 35 miles of straight, wide highway... you can bet episodes of Archer helped pass the miles!

I just used wired earbuds plugged into my iPhone back then, but I'd definitely go bluetooth nowadays. Tech has gotten really good

Ditto - would never wear anything over the ears while riding. I even hate having a skull cap under the helmet and over the ears in the winter. I want to know what's coming at me...

Today i yelled at / scared a guy by yelling at him to get off the phone while driving. I wonder if this post will be used by the anti cyclists stating that some of us watch TV!

This thread could easily be re-titled "Name a bunch of bands I've never heard of".

Two albums:
Michael Jackson - Thriller
I've got a background in audio engineering. So some days I listen to the recording and you've caught me on one of those days - plus I just got some new sweet in-ear monitors! 35 years later a few of these tunes are still good. Underrated songwriter, actually.

Elliot Smith - Either/Or
Just a great rainy late winter album. I miss Elliot Smith.
