Yeha that awesome yellow vertical SILCA decal would be nice, if I choose to go that route I might have to do it by hand.

Yup, a great combo... used to refer to it that way when I worked as a truck/equipment mechanic. Won't budge, give it a go with the combination wrench. Probably not appropriate for pb blaster soaked wood in this instance though.

If you're replacing the handle anyway, you can cut the wood off, that way you can get the PB Blaster into the threads more easily.

Looks like a fun project!

Yup, threaded on and rusted on. If you need to hold a metal rod in place somewhat tight – two wooden strips in vice will suffice up to a point then you get the spins.

Stripped and sanded, priming today.

I don’t have a huge pipe cleaner so I MacGyvered some funky solutions for cleaning out the inside, then I stuck the camera where it does not belong, some interesting results…. (a little modern Ahrt Galerie for today)

Which reminds me of last time I went to a modern art gallery (pump up the volume)…

I enjoyed it very much but found myself asking the following question

Yeah I clamped the rod and came back with my dremel, then I thought let me give it one last tug and sure enough it threaded off. I was very relieved. To be honest there have been a few times where I find myself like this with this project…

I have to replace everything and that darn rubber washer at the bottom of the shaft jumped off into the trash bin and teleported into another dimension, gone nowhere to be found, I went through it thrice!

Waste less time mocking up digital artwork and more time making the pump look pretty!

Rubber washer? I just went through repairing my two pumps and don't recall a rubber washer.

Oh common, I think uncle Rico and the Thundercats are aloud a little fun today.

Its easy to miss, take a look at the 4th image of the 1st post and there it is. Its that small black rubber washer in the recess of the center whole at the bottom of the pump shaft. I should have never taken it out!

This thread was a huge waste of time until Uncle Rico and the Thundercats showed up.

I was going to be all "Throw it away and go buy a Topeak" but now that I see what you're going for carry on!

My memory of Silca is the one we had growing up was a PITA and never worked well, mostly due to me not wanting to take the time to thread the thing onto the valve stem. And yet I bet my Dad is just as possessive of it as you guys are, he's still got it!

Were these like "the" bike accessory you had to have in the 70s?

I don't know about all that stuff, but that is a fantastic red Joel Shapiro sculpture in the background. That guy is great.

Ahh, ok. My pumps are later versions that have a brass fitting that threads onto the pump base.

Should be fairly easy to come up with an equivalent of that rubber washer.
