The good old days.
This made me smile. I have a thurst for hot water out of a garden hose for some reason.

and a lot of 'gobbing' into the wind to see if we can hit our buddies.
I still do that now when riding with others |

Wow, back when I was indestructible. Broke a fork, bent a couple frames, finally my dad just "modified" the damaged parts so he didn't have to buy new bikes. Never a helmet, nor a fear in the world.
I wanna go back. |

In 1968 had a green metal flake banana bike that I rode everywhere until it was stolen. Other than losing the bike, wonderful memories.

I never got one of these in my childhood, my brother did from peddling newspapers. I never got a new bike, hand me downs. So after earning bit of cash and Christmas money - I had my father take me to bike shop (I was 12.5 years old) day after Christmas and came out of their with 10 speed Flandria. Rest is history.

When I was a kid our neighborhood had a standardized race course. Started in front of our house, down the road a 1/4 mile and left through the foundation excavations for the next subdivision, lots of whoops and dirt, around the cul de sac and into the trail that ended behind Tim's house then back down the road, repeat.
Imagine my joy discovering in middle age that cyclocross was a thing and they'd let me race. |

These things are so regional. In my neighborhood there's bikes, scooters, and all kinds of evidence of children playing outdoors! When I describe where I am living to family and friends, I use the words horde of kids going from open front door to open front door. The other day in the grocery store I heard a little girl ask her mom if she could watch tv when they got home. Without missing a beat mom said, "it's a nice day outside." End of discussion. Sure there's still plenty of glowing face zombies around, but not enough for me to want to go back.

We have a big woods at the edge of my block where I often walk my dog. I almost never see any kids there. When I was growing up I lived in the woods, climbing trees, catching Salamanders and building forts. I must really be old!

Where are the choppers in that original pic ?
Man we used to cut the fork legs off old POS bikes and hammer the legs onto the end of the fork legs of our "good" bikes. Whammo, instant chopper, and instant street cred ! iphone X ?!?! Phux yu! |
