Found on Ebay from Poland a matching crank bolt cover for my 7-Eleven Merckx

I also used my REI dividend to buy a Garmin Varia. I was skeptical about if I would like it but I do find it a bit reassuring knowing what is behind me. Tried to use various mirrors in the past but none worked well for me (either vibration or having to adjust it constantly). Surprising how accurate it is from a good distance.

It's good to ride behind someone with the Varia too

Since the flashing speeds up the closer the car gets, you can tell how close the driver is by watching the light flash

Replaced the boat anchor-like but capable surly steel fork with matte parlee. Handles better and brings the fun factor up another notch on the trails!

...And trying out some rapha powerweave explorer shoes. Pretty impressed so far with the sock like feel of the uppers yet they fit like a glove and feel supportive.

I have mentioned this before in another thread, but just have your friends pair their computers up to your Varia, or vice versa if you have friends with a Varia but you don't.

I have a good friend I ride with several times a week who doesn't have one. But he has just attached his Garmin head unit to my Varia. Any time he rides with me, it automatically syncs and he gets the same notifications that I do.

Got in 35 so far. Unbelievable how smooth it rides. Campy brifters re totally new experience for me, but I got used to them quickly.

I just picked up the Rapha Commuter Lightweight Jacket (https://www.rapha.cc/us/en_US/shop/m...roduct/TLW01XX). I usually wear medium bibs and jerseys and large jackets. This large jacket happened to be huge and looks pretty awkward when worn over a form fitting cycling kit. Also, I don't think I understand why companies sell cycling jackets with hoods. I descended down the backside of Hawk Hill in Marin yesterday while wearing the jacket and the hood acted like a parachute and started choking me on the descent. I think this will end up being a strictly off-bike item of clothing moving forward.

Your most recent cycling related purchase

I bought this Pro Discover frame bag based on comments in a thread about handlebar bags. I haven’t tried it yet but have a couple of long gravel races coming up and needed something that can hold lots of food.

I got it on sale from BTD. They had this one and a “team” version that’s the same size but a little lighter but almost twice the cost of this one.
