Works fine though I can't eliminate rub when cross chaining the big ring. I usually had this as a single ring but wanted a double and that's what I had around. I think it's an old 9 speed tiagra or something.

Hmm. I wouldn't tolerate that. Maybe you could solve it with an inexpensive Yaw Rival 22 FD.

Yeah I'll probably replace it eventually Or just go back to single ring. I think the xx derailleur could take a pretty big cassette.

I too run an XX RD and 42/28 crank. I initially tried to use a Rival 22 FD, but the lower part of the cage hit my chainstay. I installed an XX FD and with Rival 22 shifters it is absolutely the best front shifting I have ever experienced.

I think there are two cage models of the XX FD (among other versions). Mine is marked "45t max" on the back and I think that may be the bigger of the two as the other was intended for the 39/26 XX rings.

Edit: My mistake, you said cassette. Yes, I think both the mid-cage and long cage XX RD are officially rated to 36t.
