Tire pressure suggestions please
Trying fatter tires than I have ever used on a road bike - 35mm Vittoria Voyager Hypers, on Velocity Synergy rims. I weigh about 150, so all in bike and rider maybe 175 pounds. I looked at the Frank Berto 15% drop chart and it looks like about 50 psi rear and a bit lower in the front - what's your experience?
Thanks! |

If you can look at the tires while you ride try for a pressure that allows a just-noticeable bulge in the sidewall. That will indicate you are getting some cushioning for a comfy ride but not enough flex to eat up a lot of power.

I run 25c (28mm actual width) tires on 23mm wide rims and weigh 155 lbs. 75 rear and just under 70 front. Do not be afraid to go low.

I weigh 175-180 lbs, and use Panaracer T-Serv 700x32 tires for daily commuting over badly potholed streets. I usually inflate the front to 65 psi, the rear to 70.

I would definitely run that tire at 50 psi. The tpi is not to high, so there will not be much sidewall flex at a higher pressure, and ride will not be as smooth. I usually run 32's around 40-50psi, depending on what type of surface I'll be riding. Tpi is an important part of how the tire feels at different pressures, the higher the tpi the more supple of a ride, better grip, and more linear change in casing flex as the psi is adjusted.
Have fun, don't be afraid to expierence. |
