Serotta Colorado Legend TI55L00216

Hi, I have a Colorado Legend TI , frame number TI55L00216, and i would like to find out which year it was manufactured.
With my Investigation here in this thread, I found out, that is has to be made before 1997.
Can anyone help?

That would be great.

Many Greetings from Germany

Tobias

My guess is that is it from 1994. The ones from '95 on had a seatpost clamp rather than a bolt like yours has. The Ti frames pictured in the '94 catalog have the seatpost bolt like yours. BTW, Serotta's were always a little fluid with the models they had available for each year, and not like the bigger bike manufacturers that had distinct model configurations each year. So it can be difficult to determine exactly which year a bike was built.

However, I can tell you that this was the 216th "Ti" frame built.

BTW, that's a great looking bike. I like the Time fork on there.

Tobias, that's a 1993, the first year for Titanium Serottas. In 1994 the model name changed to Colorado Ti. 1993 is the easiest year to identify any Serotta model, as they all had "Legend" in the name. Great looking bike. Thanks for posting, as we now know that at least 216 Ti frames were made in the first year of production.

I agree, doesn't look at all dated with your build. Thanks again for posting.

The serial number of my Colorado II is SC60 00828. I am guessing 1990. Can anyone confirm this?

There were quite a few running changes on the Colorado II. The first ones (1989) had three top of top tube cable guides. In 1991 they went to internal TT cable routing with ports on top as standard. The catalog mentions this feature was added by popular demand, so some 1990 frames may also have had internal routing. 1989-1990 frames had fillet brazed BB joints. This was changed to a lugged joint by the end of production in 1992, but I don't know exactly when the lugs became available. 1992 frames also feature S bend chainstays. The 1991 catalog clearly shows a full lug at the TT/HT joint. Earlier frames had sort of a half lug that extended onto the top of the TT, but were fillet brazed on the bottom half of the tube. Oddly my 1992 frame (SC60 3521) features a top lug that is like a normal lug on the head tube side, but has a fillet brazed joint all the way around. Not sure how common this is on 1992 frames. I suspect they had run out of the lugs when my frame was built, as the 1992 catalog shows a full lug. Pic of 3521 TT joint below.

1991 and 1992 decals definitely lack the chevrons of the 1989 bikes. I am unsure about 1990. I believe the catalog Keith listed as 1989 is actually the 1990 catalog. That catalog still features the chevron decals. But with the lead time for producing the catalog, the decision to eliminate the chevrons may not have been made yet. I have Colorado II serial number SC59 0432. My guess based on the serial number is that it was produced in 1990. It lacks the chevrons. It has internal rear brake cable routing.

Given that we know at least 3521 Colorado IIs were produced from 1990-1992, yearly production must have been in the 1200 range. Seems likely your frame is a 1990.

Serotta pics

There does not appear to be any marks prior to the I. I'm not the most computer savvy for attaching photos. The icon above asks for the address. Is there a way to insert a photo from my phone?

I've never logged in here from the phone but I'm pretty sure lots of people post pics from their phones. If you can't figure it out, try using Tapatalk.
