Veloflex VLAANDEREN vs Arenberg

I love my Arenberg's especially the blackwall but it may be time to replace them and am considering the Vlaaderen for just a bit more cush. Anybody have experience with the Vlaaderen?

I recently installed a pair of Vlaanderen tubulars, after having ridden on Roubaix's for the past four years. My initial impressions after 200 miles or so are very good in terms of handling and ride quality...very "cushy" and smooth. I am a bit concerned about wear as they have a completely different tread pattern compared to the Roubaix's, which wore according to spec and I have never, I repeat, never flatted.

They measure true to spec at 27mm where the Roubaix's ran about 1-1.5mm shy of spec (25mm). I run them at 80psi front and 85psi rear which seems to work for me. Speedwise, I give the edge to the Roubaix, but then again, I'm not setting any records. My tires goals revolve around safety, reliability and ride quality. Both of these tires seem to check the boxes and I'm sold on Veloflex as a manufacturer.

Search the web too as there is a published long term report out there which compares both tires.

Before

After

Nice bike! I too am interested in reviews of this tire. I've been using Veloflex Carbon and Roubaix for years and am completely sold on them in terms of ride quality and puncture resistance. Curious about the Vlaanderen if anyone else can chime in . . .

OP here...I did find a pretty positive longer test of the tire:

Veloflex VLAANDEREN vs Arenberg

To put it simply, the Vlaanderen is even more fun than the excellent Roubaix.

Can't speak to the Vlaanderen but I do ride the Arenberg my go to tyre. I switched from Vittoria CX 25 to Veloflex Arenberg. Veloflex go on amazing they are so easy to mount straight the first time I have never need to pull up or roll the tyre to get the alignment. I am NOT sure I could fit the Vlaanderen, the Arenbergs on the ENVE 4.5 rim measure 24 if the Vlaanderen is a true 27 I doubt I would clear. It might however be worth the experiment.

I am having the same concern on brake clearance. The Arenbergs worked really nicely with my Record pre-skeleton vintage brakes. How much taller are the Vlaanderens?

I can't answer your height comparison question as I never measured the height of the Roubaix's...pardon the worms. As Dave Kirk often points out, it's the height of your brake bridge that can impact tire clearance as well.

You should be able to estimate if/how the Vlaanderen will fit by measuring the gaps around your Arenberg. From the looks of your brake, it would seem like it will be a rather close call.

I tried to measure the height of a Vlaanderen which is mounted on a Nemesis rim. It appears to be 27mm which is the same as the width. My tightest clearance is at the chainstay at the bottom bracket...hope this helps.
