Chain-L gone...?

lubed the chain last nite and noticed my bottle of Chain-L was almost empty.

tried to go to the site last nite to order some more...tried several searches, but couldn't locate it and the FB page hasn't been updated in years.

couple of sites had it listed as 'back order'...Amazon had a few bottles, so I cleaned out their supply.

did Frank shut down the operation?

Also, NFS doesn't reek like Chain-L did.

That's funny your hunting for it. I have a brand new bottle they gave me ages ago and never tried it. Same with NFS and like 8 other types/brands. I have cases of Motorex lube, degreaser and polish. Never opened.

Good luck with the search. With so many brands out there right now, I wouldn't be surprised if there is some consolidation soon.

Have you smelt it? I've never smelt Chain-L but I was surprised that NFS has this very much machine tool vibe to it.

the product was originally called Chain-L No. 5.

they got sued for name infringement by the Chanel No. 5 fragrance people...that was quite a while back tho.

haven't sniffed any NFS...

C-L has a pretty noticeable gear oil odor...but, I kinda like it. takes me back to my muscle car gear-head days.

Chain-L is the best stuff I have used in over 35 years of cycling/wrenching....looks like FarWheel still stocks it: https://fairwheelbikes.com/chain-l-chain-lube/

get yourself a quart of any good synthetic motor oil, like mobil 1. pour it into your former chain-l bottle. use as normal.

the quart will last you through dura ace 20000, set to arrive to market circa 2037.

Uff Da! It does to me. If I do a long ride & have to toss the bike in the car, have to have the windows open. No problem going to the ride, just after. Of course...it could be me.

A whole bunch of chemists and engineers just rolled over in their graves and threw up in their mouths.
