I got fed up with the tax returns around 6 PM and figured I should get a few miles in as it was unusually warm here today (still 70 at 11 PM). 20+ mph headwind made it tough going out but it was nice on the return. I'm trying to ride every bit of public road in the county, so headed to the closest unridden bit given the limited daylight. I rode out to a dead end road I'd never been on before that appeared to end at a nice little unoccupied 1930s bungalow. I went south from there into a farm field and decided to turn around, as I was pretty sure I was on private property. When I got home and looked at the maps, I found that the "road" cuts around the north side of the house and continues on to the east. I will have to check with someone to see if it's still open to the public, but it shows as a road on ridewithgps. May have to make a return trip.

Whilst waiting for my gravel frame to turn up, I'm running 32mm tires on my road bike and exploring around.

Wasn't out there today as long as I planned, but still good fun.

After an hour or so on the road I came to the place I was planning on turning off into the tracks and headed down the valley. The drop became fairly loose and steep in places, so had to walk it somewhat with the filetread Compass tires. Got near the bottom and found the gravel track beside the rail line I was looking for.

From then on lots of up and down and bends. The tires rode really well on this surface.

After a while came to a No Trespassing/Rail line sign with a camera. Hmmn. Dead end (the gravel track continues on and on along the valley bottom).

Turned around. Came across a guy on a electric mountain bike. Had a good chat about cops, drones and bikes!

Climbed down across and over the rail line as it looked like I could carry my bike across the rocks (to a track on the other side) which ran across the river. However the bottom was too slippery, so I climbed back up to the track and headed the other way.

After a while came across another camera at the rail line crossing. Stuff it. I knew there was a park not far on the other side.

Probably going back tomorrow for some more exploring.

Hurry up proper gravel bike!

Did a 190-mile two-day overnight loop Portland to Bethel Maine on tandem with girlfriend. Sudbury Inn in Bethel has been a regular overnight getaway for us ever since being diverted there due to a road closure on Evans Notch about 5 years ago. (Inexpensive old New England kind of funky nice, brew pub restaurant in basement, designated place for the tandem, which we roll right inside the lobby). This time on our return I wanted to do Evans, but again it was closed and covered with snow so. In fact we ran into dog mushers getting ready to (ride? mush?) it. So we continued to Pinkhams Notch which added some distance. Was great watching skiers on the slopes at the ski area while riding along in shorts. About 115 for the return was a bit more than we wanted but was pretty awesome. Mostly avoided GF tears except, notably, when buzzed by big trucks during about a 20-mile stretch on shoulder-less section of Route 113 (my bad).

I rode 23 miles today (Easter) after work, basically my daily ride. It was super windy and not particularily nice out. Kind of a 'meh' ride, lol.

No pics but a great weekend of riding. 40 mile Friday with the fast guys in 30 mph winds just about killed me. 40 mile group on Saturday was sublime.
Topped it off today with a nice slow paced 30 with a buddy who was hauling his 3 yr old on a buggy. He slept the whole way until I heard a loud "moo!" From the buggy as we passed some cows as he woke.
