Bottle braze-on repair - bay area
Hey forum
After some serious belgian cobble thrashing, one of the braze-ons on my bike has popped loose. I think this was kind of a long time coming - when I first built up the bike there was a bit of rust there already I'm in the bay area, and I'm wondering if any of you can recommend someone to do the repair? I know where to go for carbon around here, but not for steel. Thanks John |

Is it a braze on or a rivnut?

If it's a rivnut, I can loan you the tool on one of my trips over the hill. Otherwise, maybe either Paul Stadoff or Josh Muir?

I just put in some rivnuts myself, but if you want it brazed, I would recommend Paul Sadoff just over the hill in Santa Cruz. He gave me the rivnuts!

If its a rivnut, a quick release skewer and an old axle will work to install them.

There's a shop in Campbell with a framebuilder called Silva Cycles. I've seen their stuff on Instagram and it looks great, but not direct experience

Try Bernie in Alameda. He recently helped a friend with a headtube braze-on fix...charged like $60 bucks.

Thanks all - I'll chase these down. I'm honestly not sure if it's a rivnut or a braze-on. The bike's in its suitcase travel home right now, but I'll check it out when I land in SFO later today.

the Freewheel in SF (near the panhandle of Golden Gate Park), there a guy there that is also a frame builder that can fit it. He installed some bottle mounts for me 10 years ago.

IME, never seen a brazed water bottle thingy gone bad unless was rusted badly or that the builder brazed it really really bad. with ruv-nuts you never know what will happen with them.
