Plan is to Rat Trap Pass-ify and add a VO LD stem when they are back in stock.

I've got this basting right now. I was finally able to get the DA 7400 cranks to work (except on the non drive side. Had to swap it out for a MTB crank). Now I just need some time to put it all together. I'm using Paul Thumbie mounts by the stem as well. One thing I like about these old GF--three bottle mounts (under DT). Great for an adventure bike.

Sizing?

Man, this thread has gotten the gears turnin'. My father-in-law has an old Fat Chance gathering dust in the garage...

Do you go down frame size on a drop-bar conversion? It seems like you'd want a shorter top tube for make room for the extra reach of the drop bar.

If you're re-purposing an old MTB, chances are the stem is pretty long. Just go with a shortie stem and the drops and you should be good.

I"ve been kicking around thoughts of doing this for a few years with a non suspension Fisher that I haven't taken off road in years. This thread now has me looking at stems and such

All the talk about 26 inch, drop bars, and repurposed MTB's---so I might as well post this.

I originally put this Stumpjumper together almost 20 years ago. Recently I freshened it up with new Town and Country tires and a shorter stem purchased from a forum member just to see if I might again bond with the bike.

This time of year I have been riding mostly pavement. It is nice to have the gears to ride super steep stuff and an excuse to ride casual. Also, it's ok to simply hose it off after a wet ride.
