If you're able to sustain mucho climbing up dirt & gravel for long periods, then the 180 is fine. The 160 and 115 share many of the same roads, with the 115 being shorter, but not necessarily that much easier. Still plenty of climbing there. So it's really a question of how long you want to be out there. Each ride offers beautiful terrain and plenty of climbing. |

You're certainly going to right direction to attempt that time.

Isn't there a speed limit for those trails? I seem to remember seeing one when I first got interested in doing the route. How are time trial efforts accepted by the locals (and the local authorities)?

I am in for the 180k. If you have not done it before and you are fit the go with the original 180K and enjoy the pickle juice and peaches.

C&O is usually done around 15-16 mph, with the exception of the gnarly rooted sections. The goal is to limit the amount of time off of the bike. My wife will be providing support along the route, so we will not have to hunt for provisions. |

I probably won't make it this year. Those who have done it already knew just how fun it is. If you are new to this and thinking about it, I highly recommend trying it out. Check out last year's thread with pals' pictures and stories.

Giving this thread a bump. The Mrs can't go this year so I am thinking about signing up for the 160 or 180k route. We did the 100k last year. We took our time and rode at a very casual pace with a fun group of forum members.
It was actually easier than I expected. Looking for more of a challenge this year. |
