Which variant is it? you sure it's not hidden with grime on the front derailleur tab? Sometimes they're hard to find.

How about inside the rear drop out? Never seen one without it, so maybe it's just not where you're looking.

here's a pic

nothing on the dropouts

somewhat of an impulse purchase but that's how I sometimes operate

i'm assuming it's a repaint

Is that a 1" fork? maybe it's the angle but it looks bigger.

So are you looking for the serial number directly on the front derailleur mount? you won't see it if your f/d is installed.

You have a zoomed in pic of the f/d mount? if it's not there it's either painted over, removed, or something else is going on. should be right there.

it looks like the S/N is painted over. it'll be on the backside section of the front-mech "braze-on" that wraps around the seat-tube kinda facing the rear tyre.

fwiw...that's definitely a repaint, the "COLNAGO" font used on the DT isnt quite correct. the little "brackety" tail should be on *both* the upper and lower sides of the letter C, a-la:

It may not be--I have seen a number of Colnagos with paint that does not quite match the Cambio colorways, and (at least by rumor) they have been done by the large Colnago distributor in Holland(?) that was able to buy bare frames and paint. Their 'interpretations' of the factory color schemes were sometimes a little loose.

(Again, by internet rumor, it was through this channel that Mike at Maestro was able to offer discontinued color schemes on the newer bikes. He doesn't identify the dealer on his website but says "My Colnagos come from Colnagos premier distributor, with all fittings and warranty booklets, and are priced in EUROS, I have sourced via them for over 40 years.")

Thanks for the thoughts on this!

So, any take on the steerer tube number?

Will this ID the frame?

I'm in the re paint camp on this one. Too many differences, and I have the same Edition of this frame. Front derailleur tab is only partially white on mine, mostly black. That fork looks large to me also.

So is it a 1" for or not? If it's not its not a C40. I'm guessing it's just an odd camera angle but curious nonetheless.

it's been a while since i've looked, but i dont recall any correlation between frame and fork serial# -- they dont "match" if that's what you're thinking.

i see a C40-mk3 with an aftermarket re-spray of the world-champ colorway -- what else are you after?
