OT: it's raining here. Got an opinion on Mercedes GLK?

Been seeing this wagon SUV lately and it's been catching my eyeballs. I'd consider later model year like 2014. I know not economical but is it a reasonably good car?

IMO it is one of the ugliest Mercedes made. I park next to a red one daily…

+1

A) I would not want to drive a Mercedes, no matter the model.

B) Remove the badge and replace it by Volvo, Kia, GMC, whatever you like, and I still would not want to drive that thing.

Friend bought one of those used and loves it. He did his research and found the best of these models was the one that didn't have all wheel drive option, as the transmissions of them were a major expensive problem...

Fugly and the Mercedes tax. Hard pass.

If you're looking for a compact SUV, take a look at the Audi Q5. Great ergonomics, excellent driving experience.

We've had four in the family...love them!

As someone who used to run a fleet, I'll let you in on a universal truth. If you can't afford a vehicle when it was brand new; you definitely can't afford it when it's used and starts eating money.

my 2009 RX350

with 160K miles would not fit that quote. Bought it with 140K. Zero issues its entire life.

They had to make it ugly cause it's the "Subaru by Mercedes Benz" model.

People I've known who had them liked them.

Yes that is even uglier. I saw one finally this past Monday and it was as impressively abhorrent to experience in person as expected.

I think the GLK is nice looking. I considered buying one when needed a bit more space than my C-Class had. I bought the C-Class new and didn't have a single issue with it over the decade I owned it.

+1 I think it looks nice too.

My 2011 C300 has been very reliable.
My friend's 2014 SLK250 has been equally reliable.
We are both jinxed now that I said that, lol 😆
Ymmv, of course.

Years ago, we test drove a GLK of that vintage and liked it, when we also considered getting a SUV, but in the end my wife thought it was too big for her taste so we passed on it.

About a year ago, we had a serious need for a SUV, so we picked up a used 2013 Honda CRV and couldn't be happier with it.

Mercedes looked at a Subi Forester SF/SG and recognized the genius design of a boxy, square body shape, low waist, high roof, mild SUV with very large window panes, which actually allow the driver to see all the spots where the car ends and so on without the need of cameras, range detectors and crystal balls

It shares many parts with the "C" platform (C220 etc) so it should also share the mechanical strengths and weaknesses. In general, Mercedes from the noughties do not have the best reputation for durability, reliability of electronics, and rust; Since the GLX was introduced quite late in that decade, many of the initial bugs will have been mitigated, i guess
