Went for a ride instead of watching the TT, but am extremely happy with the result. 70 mostly flat kilometers (43 miles) of individual time trials seemed to be the appropriate balance for all the climbing in this year's giro.
As is well documented in these pages, I think more and longer time trials is part of making more exciting grand tours with a more balanced route that doesn't overly favor the climbing specialists. Looking back at the tour and giro over the last few years, I see the tour had 65 km in 2013. and 68km in the 2014 Giro, but those are toward the higher end of recent editions. If organizers want to put in lots of mountains and mountain top finishes, I'd be happy to see 100km of TT (split up between team and ITT). It is, after all the tour de france - not tour de mountains de france, or giro di mountains d'italia. Would like to see equal chances for gaps for the fast men and the climbers.
