Show us yer old MTB(s)

sorry if this thread exists already.

these are the builds that i've done over the past four years or so. i like how cheap you can build them, and how useful they are. however i haven't landed on the perfect one yet. i have had some complaint or another about each frame that has led me to sell all of them. either the sizing is weird (#1 offender), the seatpost is stuck, there's a missing braze on, they're too flexy, etc. every couple months i get the itch again, & end up cruising ebay & craigslist for a new old mountain bike.

please share pictures of yours.

I bought this new in 1994. I couldn't find an AMP Research frame in my size, but one of the local bike shops had a Mongoose Amplifier branded frame. I still ride it occasionally, with my kids on the local trails.

I found this Ross Mt. Rainier on CL several years ago. It's a tank but great fun to ride.

MB-1 that doesn't get ridden enough

These are all fantastic; favorites are probably 1, 6, +7 above. The drop bars rule, the white Stumpjumper is very cool looking, and the Litespeed definitely reminds of a Raleigh BMX bike I had growing up.

Scapin Team Oversize, Campy Euclid (other than the levers and shifters which were changed for the drop bars)

I dragged this out a while back since someone in the Classifieds was looking for an old MTB--this is my original Fisher Acquila circa 1993....

Not used too much...

thanks for the cool replies! there is some fire in here. i mostly buy specializeds because they're cheap and reliable. i might need to branch out.

i recently heard a rumor that mike sinyard asked tom ritchey to design the first stumpjumper and ritchey begrudgingly obliged, only to botch its geometry to thwart its sales. however i know tim neenan is the one who designed the stumpjumper. either way, it does ride like a boat.

Rincon SS.jpg

Couple from the 90's. Silver one was my go-to dirt bike, black was an old one w/5-speed freewheel converted to a SS.

Same frame as the silver Giant in the above pic, but w/blasted finish & red decals (the other finish option for that frameset) and partially built up. Trying to make it as period-correct (mid-late 90's) as I can.
