I lived in the Upper Valley of NH/VT, where I think you live, for 34 years. Rode mostly 23 and 25s, with exceedingly rare flats. I think this is primarily due to the overall lack of glass on the roads there, compared to many places. I find the same thing here on Martha's Vineyard - I can't recall a flat since I moved here six years ago. I'm currently riding Vittoria Voyager Hyper 37s, and when I get on my other bike occasionally with the 25 Conti 4000s I notice the harsher ride.
I rode recumbents for a couple of years in the mid-2000s and used the Gatorskins to avoid flats. Definitely the harshest tire I have ridden. That bike could hit 50 on downhills easily and I wanted the odds in my favor in terms of no blowouts. I think you should give the better tires a real shot. |
