Gunnar Sport (with mudguards) and IF Crown Jewel. I can't tell the difference in ride quality between the two.

Ha, just realized that I'm in the Paceline forum and not WeightWeenies where I normally post. I saw this topic and thought "Excellent, someone started a new steel bikes thread after the existing one got locked down for no good reason". But then I see it's The Paceline. Perhaps I'll be spending more time here in the future. Love these threads.

Alliance Steel

Logan Pass in Glacier Park! Road has not opened to cars yet and it was unexpectedly a nice quiet ride yesterday! Usually very busy on the weekends.

This was my commuter for a while (ignore the missing front brake, that came later ). It was a bit too shiny for me to feel safe locking it up around Chicago, so I gradually converted it into a proper track setup. Now it sits unused, sadly, as I never mustered the motivation to start racing.

Wow, what a find. How did you come about getting this bike, what's the story behind it? I always liked Bontrager mountain bikes. I even have a Bontrager catalogue that I like to thumb through time to time.

What frame size is this bike?

Thank you, I love this frame. I bought it from DavidB who, I believe, was Keith's art director before Trek and a period after Trek bought Bontrager. I believe David and Keith are pretty close and so David had access to many of Keith's works. I think this one is so early, it must've been one of Keith's (probably many) early idea frames.

Fortunately, DavidB is close to my size (50cm frame) so I've gotten a couple beautiful Mtb RaceLites from the rigid fork era.

It rides very smoothly. I haven't raced it against my frien-enemies so can't speak to that yet.
