The IF is a fantastic bike overall. It handles and fits great. Indy Fab has been beat up around here in the past for having some wacky geometries, but I have to say my experience hasn't borne that out. The handling is on the quick side of neutral, very like my Pegoretti actually... though ever so slightly slower at the front end. The paint and detailing are also first rate. I went for a pretty conservative cream panels on British racing green color scheme, but between the graphics and that sweet headbadge the bike still has that funky urban cool vibe that Vanilla has recently cornered the market on. As for the negative... I would say that the ride (road feel as opposed to handling) is less tuned than some of my other bikes. The frame is plenty stiff in the BB and has that springy ti road feel thing in spades, but it feels a little less refined and all-of-a-piece than some others. Randomly, I think my ti Lemond, which doesn't get a ton of bike geek respect (despite the fact the design and tube spec was done by Gary Helfrich) has the Indy beat on that count. Cheers |

One Richard Sachs cross.
Two sets of wheels. If I hear the word "stable" used again, my head will explode. Pass the duct tape. |

My fleet pales in comparison to some of you guys. Where do you keep all of those bikes?
1. 98' Csi-My main summer riding bike; 2. 93/94 Trek 2200-Winter, night riding road bike; 3. Litespeed Blue Ridge-main touring/commuter bike-not getting much use in the winter; 4. Meridian Aluminum MTB/Road Tandem-Can't get the wife on it these days. 5. Raleigh-1975 Supercourse. Collecting dust in the basement.-Mmmm-lugged 531 Steel! Regards, Bob |

Climb,
I'm playing around with the carbon stiffness. I want to try the 10.5 chain stays to see how they differ than the 8.5. No changes in the geo. I want it to be a dedicated climbing bike. |

Cool thread -- albeit somewhat tough to read. I have to let my wife read this thread which will either totally screw me because she will see you guys as a bad influence OR she will feel sorry for me and agree to the next project.
Kirk Terraplane Lugged - Pure Record (except for ZG brakes) RS Red and black by JB, does it get any better? Indy Fab Planet X - Team paint- steel cross (Custom geos, sweet comfortable ride) CoMotion Americano full bore tourer (beautiful 3 color fade) I probably do not do justice to this frame as I do not tour that much but it is still fun to load it up and head out for a day of whatever comes along. Frame/Fork/Crank Serotta Concours CS (Onyx with Comp. Red lettering - stunning) I am trying to sell or trade this one for MTB/SS project. Wife's bike - Trek 5200 __________________________________________________ _______________ CURRENT UPDATE It would be interesting if everyone who posted to this thread initially would update. As for me...... Sold the Kirk (***?) It now lives with another forumite which makes it a little easier to accept. Still have the IF.....oh hell yeah.....my favorite bike and I use it for everything and it performs wonderfully. So damn comfortable. The only bike that has that _disappears beneath me_ ride. OK, so maybe it's a little heavy but I don'care. Hey Tony P, don't know if you ever check in on the forum any more but if you are around......you NAILED IT when you specced the geo on this bike. CoMotion is gone. Never really _connected_ to this bike. Never was able to realize it's full potential. It was a great bike just too overbuilt for me. It was my own fault, I probably should have gotten the Nor'wester. I will say it was fine craftsmanship and it was cool to have a single bike with those massive tandem hubs. Beautiful paint. Serotta Concours is now fixed thanks to White Industries and Mike at 66fixed in St. Petersburg. This is the most fun I can remember having on a bike since I was a kid. Hmmmmmmmm, those were onegears also. This build has taught me to pace myself. Whenever I rode by myself, which is more often than not I would always blow up toward the end of the ride. I have this habit of going too hard at the beginning of a ride and thus the blowing up. The first time I did my regular 50 miler from the driveway on the fixed Serotta I could not believe how great I felt as I pulled back into the driveway. I have that experience every time I ride it. It just works. I know that it is faddish and I am enjoying it so much that I have ordered a new frame with horizontal dropouts. It's not going to be a track bike because I ain't up to that and I have no track close but I do susupect it will be my daily rider (now if I could just find time to really ride every day). The only issue with this beautiful Serotta frame is that someone at the factory built a backache into it. I don't know what to do as I have tried numerous builds with the same result. It really bums me as it a fantastic bike. Standard geometry 58cm Concours CS in Onyx with Competition Red lettering. When I get the new frame I intend to finally sell this bike to someone with the appropriate back. They will love it i am sure. Wife still has the Trek 5200.....wish she would ride it more often. I am so thankful to all of you guys on this forum and I cannot begin to tell you how much I have learned as a result of hangin' here. Eric Last edited by ericspin; 04-06-2008 at 09:15 AM. |
