$.02: Cream formed in '66 I think. Dead formed '65 and as far as I know were on the road consistently by '66. Loads of drawn out, long jam-filled shows going back to the dead's beginning. If I'm not mistaken I don't think they were much later than Cream with that type of live approach. I love Cream, I love the dead.

Built to Spill has a pretty long history of 7 minute plus album tracks.

John McLaughlin, Miles Davis, et al

Right Off, from the album/CD Tribute to Jack Johnson. 26 minutes plus, McLaughlin kills it, in my opinion some of the best playing (if not the best) from Miles Davis.

I won't say there isn't anyone doing that today, but I'm not really aware of any bands on that track. What are songs that you remember that top seven/ten minutes or more...past or present?

What have you got?

For starters:

The Allman Brothers - Mountain Jam (33:41)

(Leaving aside politics, the dude can shred the guitar) Ted Nugent - Hibernation (14:36)

William
Phish, Widespread Panic, Dave Matthews.

If you told me tomorrow that the key to world peace was shooting every jam band into the sun, I'd be the first in line to help load the rocket.
