If you want a light bike there is no reason for steel. Carbon would be best. Not really weighted this one but it is sort of light even with the MTB RD and the 11/40 cassette.

Reading this hasn't helped at all!
Now I'm looking at a second wheelset, seatpost and saddle to drop another 400gm |

Squid gravel build.
I am currently amassing all the parts to build a gravel bike. I am hoping it will be in the 18lbs ball park. Parts list as follows.
1. Squid alloy disc frame XXL 2. Enve CX 12mm thru axle fork. 3. Enve M50/50 wheels with DT Swiss 240 CL hubs. 4. Enve cockpit. 27.2 x 300mm post, 110mm stem, 44cm bars. 5. Rotor 3D+ 30mm 175mm 110bcd cranks w/ 42T QX1 Rotor ring. 6. Sram Force CX 1 levers and calipers. 7. Sram Force CX 1 rear derailleur long cage. 8. Sram XO 1 10 X 42 cassette. 9. Selle Italia SLR XP saddle. 10. Thompson 31.8mm seat collar. 11. Chris King headset. 12. Chris King PF 30 BB. 13. Clement MST 36mm tubeless ready tires. 14. Shimano XTR pedals. 15. Arundal carbon bottle cages. 16. Lizard Skin bar tape. Any guesses as to what this will weigh in at? I'm waiting on the wheels to be built by ENVE. I'll post pics when it's built. |

Sent over an email and they do! Apparently the Bokeh has been super popular so they just have a few 56 grey ones left before the next batch comes mid summer.

Thanks.
Custom Stoemper (rim brake) Ronny. Not sure how I manage to make it stop without discs . Also not made for me but fits as if. Lucky find on the bay from a relatively local seller. Terrific frameset! |

Currently weighing in at 8,1 kg, 17.9 lbs. Lost a wee bit of weight with the Compass Bon Jovi tires. Nothing really done to cut weight, standard Campy Chorus group except for a Potenza cage replacing the original Chorus cage so I can run a Potenza 11-32 cassette. Wheels for strength and durability instead of lightness. Frame all fat tubing, etc. In other words pretty much a standard issue ti fat-tired road bike.

Nice. My 59 cm Steel gravel bike has all top components on top of 650B wheels and with Berthoud saddle, pedals, and cages goes 22 lbs. If I put 28mm wheels, carbon saddle, no pedals, and no cages, it might go 19.0 pounds. I'd have to get rid of one chain ring, brakes, cassette to go 18 pounds. Nice looking rig. |

Yup, Tim and Houston's bikes tell me that a reliable, metal, hydro disk-brake gravel bike is going to weigh about 18.5 lbs. Those bikes are spec'd as nicely as you can spec these bikes. Maybe you can save 300g with some SRAM and some extra leger tires, but sub 18 is not really in the cards.
