Great time for the trip! McKenzie pass will hopefully still be closed to cars then. I'll be riding it this Sunday.

Too cool!! I had no idea that even existed. Found the link below and it looks amazing. I'll definitely have to add it to the list of "to do's" for later trip.

Before you say it's hot this summer....

...remember that you're not a roofer.

Too hot to fly!

We'll never have that problem here in the great PNW. Now if only it wasn't raining...

It is getting hotter here in Austin, and that is to be expected. Instead of whining, I have decided to start my ride a lot earlier than usual, around 6:30-7am, basically as close to first light as possible. And then I want to wrap things up before 11 or so, that should give me enough time to cover about 50-60 miles. And that's all I need.

Yea, go figure. Sunday was 102d here at 3:30 and Monday same time "only" 86d.

I bought one of those schmancy DYSON AM08 fans from Costco last year and that's been good - quiet, remote, good reach.

Keep drinking lots of water....

I took off for my usual Tuesday after work ride just before 5. Thermometer said 112* when I set out, but, there was good cloud cover and a little breeze. Turned out to be a good ride.

yeah, AUS hit 100F last week...earliest date we've done that in 6 years I hear...not a good sign for the rest of the summer / fall...'cause we can still hit triple digit temps even in late Sept...

been rolling out on the bike at 8-ish and getting in 30 miles and then heading to the pool afterwards...makes a perfect ending to a sweaty ride.

It was around 108F on McKenzie pass in early June 2016 during a blistering heatwave. 15 days straight with high temperatures never below 100 F. More than one motorist stopped and offered to take me where I wanted to go. One dear lady said the radios are warning people not to venture out because it was 118F. I was fixing a flat. She said I could die out there. She kindly gave me some water and asked where I was going. She did not know where Yorktown was but said she would pray for me. A UPS driver stopped me in the middle of nowhere and told me the heat index was 165 F. I am not sure what that meant but it was brutal.

I learned a lot of tricks but heat is no fun wet or dry.
