Allez SE was my first real bike. It was $599 in 1986. If only I'd kept mine!

The Saturne clinchers were original equipment, with specialized hubs.

About the only redeeming quality of that particular bike is the Suntour Superbe Pro group. Might be able to get some $$$ for the parts. They were pretty nice for an relatively inexpensive bike.

I get that...... But a few years ago one of his purported bikes came up on eBay. Looked pretty original. It was a Merckx with 8-speed Dura Ace and looked pretty much original and authentic.

I think it was nowhere near this price. And it was an actual cool bike. It was a few thousand dollars and may or may not have been ridden in actual events.

Not getting into the story of his chemically enhanced performances. Old news. But the bike was pretty cool.

Remember the Pee Wee Herman bike on ebay last year?

http://forums.thepaceline.net/showth...pee+wee+herman

I recall it had a BIN of $15K and bidding ended at $36K!

Actually checked with the wife to see if we could buy it as an investment but
was vetoed

Peewee's bike was in a successful movie. American Flyers was terrible....predictable plot, clichés, bad acting, and a box office failure.

American Flyers was my inspiration to get into cycling. Forget all the other stuff in the movie ... bicycle stage racing had me curious.

I rode a Schwinn LeTour with a handlebar bag, foam on the handlebars and strapless toe clips at the beach on the weekends. After seeing American Flyers like 7x I caught the bug. A friend of a friend sold me a Pinarello Treviso that I used for commuting to college and group rides on the weekends. Life has never been the same since that movie and that beautiful red Pinarello

Same here - saw the flick a bunch of times, got a schwinn LeTour, but never knew what to do as far as group rides - bmx raced for a while and then got into the sport in college while working at a shop.

+1. Had just started racing back then which made it even more corny but ate up the movie and everything cycling at that time- including John Tesh and Yanni soundtracks!

"You get him, King Dog" ( Belov's response to Muzzin's order to chase down Davey)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Barry Muzzin to Sergei Belov: "Think about this Belov, I'm behind you, but really I'm two seconds ahead. You know why you won the olympics… because I wasn't there. But now I'm here. Only I'm not here, I'm two seconds ahead."
----------------------------------------------------
Repórter: "It's a big day for American cycling, to have two Americans beat an Olympic champ. You must feel some pride."

Jerome: "Come on man, walk it off."

Barry Muzzin: "No, no, I'm alright. OK. I'm not riding for America lady. I tried riding for America. I spent four years of my life working ····ty jobs so I could train and make the Olympic team and ride for my… Look at me! And then some fat asses in Washington started having opinions. The Olympic Committee started having opinions. You, you bitch, I know you! You started writing your opinions. So we boycott the Olympics. I was in the best shape of my life in the summer of 1980 and I got beat by opinions."

Repórter: "Is that why you're boycotting the victory ceremony?"

Muzzin: "What victory? There's two stages left."

Repórter: "Still, the fact remains…"

Muzzin: "You wouldn't know a fact if it banged you all night long!"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Marcus Summers: "I heard you dropped out of pre-med."
David Summers: "Dropped out of pre-law to."
Marcus Summers: "Oh yeah, so what's your major now?"
D. Summers: "Actually I have a double major…eastern philosophy and cowboy movies....the yin, the yang, and the bang bang."
David Summers: "Shinto philosophy teaches you to look at life as a seasonal occupation."
Marcus Summers: "Sounds like Bull-shinto to me!"

...and the #1 line from the movie:

Barry Muzzin: "Enough of this Sunday stroll....let's hurt a little!"

Good luck getting $40k for it without proper documentation that it ever belonged to Costner. Oh and then you have to be a fan of Costner
