Tracking down the elusive... Cannondale M6 canti stud
My partner and I got this tandem on july 4th.
 We don't know what kind/or year it is, but we like it. We/I, the captain, don't like the caliper brakes it came with. They provide insufficient stopping power. I updated the front brake to a powerful v brake, but the rear caliper is still there, because the bike is missing the rear canti studs.  After measurement and research, it seems that the studs are M6, and not M8 or M10 like standard bikes. Can anybody thing of a solution here? Finding a scrapped old cannondale, or sourcing new studs, or machining M8 studs down? I'm out of ideas!  Measurement with vernier caliper. It's upside down.

Not a great solution, but I have an old Cannondale frame from that era (I think). Don't really want to rob the studs since it would render the frame useless, but for $25 (what I paid) plus postage, I'll mail you whatever you want from it...
Seems like you should be able to get new studs, though. I'll pull one to see if I can determine the size/pitch. Edit: Er...I guess you already did that, and can't find new ones.

It's probably not a 6mm, your measurement looks to be the inside diameter of the threads (comes out to 1/4") but the threads/bolts are measured on the outside diameter so yours is bigger than 1/4". Try a couple bolts to verify the size or call a cannondale dealer or two. I have a few random ones i can measure and let you know.

Took one of mine out. Seems to be 8mm, but is not 1.0 or 1.25 pitch. Maybe it's SAE, and 5/16"? I can thread it in to a 8x1.25 about 2 turns, and then it binds.
Edit: Random forum posts seem to indicate it is 5/16", 18TPI, and not very easy to find in the US. Last edited by kramnnim; 10-28-2014 at 07:58 PM.

I should mention that the lbs gave me 2 M8 studs to try. The pitch is wrong on both, and i'm not adept enough to know in what way.

I'm with ultraman on this. When I was looking for studs for my Matt Chester, I tried 2 or 3 different size and pitch studs and nothing would work.
I wound up buying one set of each from Paragon and one of them finally worked - http://www.paragonmachineworks.com/c...ion&key=BK2014

Problem solved. Bikinchris had a set of studs. Thanks for all the info. Hopefully this thread can point future searchers in the right direction.

Glad to help. I don't sell Cdale anymore, but have a box full of NOS parts.
The part number for the brake studs is A412. Don't forget to blue Loctite those suckers in.
