Very drawn to the so called mystique of very good tubulars, the ride etc. But are they really light years nicer than good hand built wheels, Veloflex Master 25 clinchers with latex tubes? Because I have that and the ride is simply sublime.

Not 'light years' when comparing to a really nice clincher + latex…but…usually used in conjunction (at least in my case) of really light wheel sets to boot.

My first tubs were also my first carbon hoops…so it was quite a revelation.

I have now, for example, a set of HED Belgium (Ardennes?)…which are a bit heavier and the ride is really pretty much the same as a nice hand built + Veloflex/Vittoria + latex.

Personally, i think it needs to be the combo of a light tubular wheelset…be it CF or AL…and the quality tubs.

I'll be rebuilding my Spada CF hubs onto some Velocity Escapes next…

Ride. Clincher tires are pretty good these day's…….though I would avoid latex tubes. I would not recommend going with tubulars if ride is the only consideration………after all, lots of folks here go full whoopy with tire pressure.

Tubulars………only way to go if you want deep section carbon composite rims. As posted previously, also added safety margin when a tubular tire goes flat.

Carbon clinchers work just fine for training and racing of you choose the right rims and pads. Disc eliminates one of those concerns.

In my experience ship time from Wiggle and PBK is no longer than from US mail-order houses. (I've never ordered anything big like wheels.)

I've ordered wheels from Wiggle, took about a week as well. I don't understand how they could send me a set of $150 khamsins with free shipping in a week and still make money but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

If the package gets stuck in customs, it can take 4-6 weeks to clear. That's the worst case. Best case is within a week. I've received wheels from China in three business days.

They buy direct from Campagnolo, they are a distributor, who also sells direct to the customer. $150 is about wholesale $..

C'mon out sometime for a ride and pick your poison. Campy only.

They really start to shine when you get in the steep hills.
You are always accelerating to fight gravity in the hills. And a good tubular wheel ( a tubular is more than just the tire) accelerates better than anything.

But there are always trade offs ($$$ time etc) so ride what you like.

Can you provide a reference showing this?
There are certainly differences between tubulars and clinchers, but acceleration is not one of them. If you are referring to the weight difference in a tubular rim vs clincher rim, the acceleration difference is -extremely- small.
