Ultegra 6510 Name Plates

Hi all,

Trying to locate name plates for my Ultegra 6510 shifters. Seem to be discontinued, and none on ebay. Any thoughts on where I can get them?

Thanks!

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but STI 6510 takes 6510 only. The good news is that the cap itself is right/left independent. There's a base plate that adapts left/right. These are easier to find.

Not likely that you'll find new caps for purchase anywhere. I scoured every supply house here and abroad this past summer trying to find a replacement rear brifter and a replacement cap for a friend. There's a key source for out of production stuff in Los Angeles - a wholesale company that deals in parts world wide - he hunted for a few weeks but came up dry as well.

There were a couple of 6510 NOS brifter sets on eBay at the time, but priced $450+, which wasn't in my friend's price range. That money would have been better invested in upgrading her drivetrain. Finally found a NOS 6510 right brifter without cap using Craigslist in Seattle and patiently hunted for a cap on eBay. Took me all summer to find a cap in good condition - had to buy the beat up brifter with it. In the end I was able to source the new 9sp brifter and cap in good condition (with just a little edge wear) for $150.

I was prepared to purchase a 6500 cap and see if I could Dremel a 6510 shape out of it, but it would have been a long shot. The 6510 is significantly thinner and has a different contour.

Wishing you the best of luck in your search.

The good news is that 5510/R600/6510 are all interchangable (NOT 5500, 6500). The bad news is that the market has dried up as of a few years ago. The last of the R600s sold out on amazon last year and since then I've looked all over for a second 6510 name plate. I actually bought the last two 6500 name plates from amazon this year.

If anyone has a source for a 5510 and/or a 6510 I, too, would love to hear from you.

NOS Ultegra 6510 cover plate now listed on eBay. $45.00 BIN is a bit absurd, but these are like hen's teeth - especially NOS.

i have moved beyond 6510 but

it seems like an option if the old ones are simply scratched, would be to remove em, sand em, and paint em a nice solid color.

Had some made?? Holy crap

I had this same problem with 5510s a while back. I crashed my buddy's 9 speed, and the only damage on the whole bike was a f'd up nameplate. I searched for about 6 months for a new plate, or even a 5510 shifter I could pillage one from.. finally found a single shifter on ebay that still had it's plate, though it was also fairly trashed... was slightly less trashed than the one I trashed, so I bought it for like $60 just as a show of good faith. I should have just upgraded his groupset- would have saved me a lot of grief.

Where the heck do you have them made?? (link is dead)

Try this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-STI-...item20ef307620

Made with a 3-D printer. Do have the appearance of an insect molting to some degree...

Excellent idea, I would suggest that they be made with the top half slightly oversized then sanded down to a smooth finish.
