Stripping Thomson parts. Anyone done it?
I am thinking of stripping and polishing my Thomson seat post and stem. I don't mind the upkeep of polishing so that's not really an issue.
I don't want to ruin a good stem and post either. Anyone have any experience here? |

might be challenging...
I have polished a lot of parts, both Ti and aluminum. I think the machining which gives the surface of Thomson parts a distinctive look would make polishing quite difficult. Typically, to get a bright polish one needs a flat surface. You may find that you are able to polish the peaks but not the valleys, if that makes sense.
It might look good...just never seen anyone attempt it. Maybe start on a seat collar or the hidden portion of a seat post to see how it goes? |

My friend has a polished silver thomson post that looks great.
I don't know what he did to polish it (whether he did anything before) but I personally like the looks of it better than the original. |
