I had a couple of Ti bikes in the past (Serotta Legend, Hors Categorie, Lemond Tete de Course) but none rides as nice as this old Cambridge-built Merlin. It's bike like this that constantly reminds me not to judge a bike by its cover or age or brand or price or whatever!

That looks very comfy. Sweet build! Thanks for sharing.

What characteristics do you find more favorable than the legend?

Also, for someone of such refined tastes, I feel compelled to give you crap about that fender line and rack placement.

Epicus pal, it's all subjective and probably has more to do with the way I set up the Merlin than anything else. For instance, my Legend can only handle tires up to 25mm while the Merlin can go up to 40. Currently, it's paired up with 35mm Pasela TG which are super comfy, fast rolling and versatile, perfectly at home on smooth pavements as well as trails, so I can take it anywhere. All the Ti bikes that I mentioned were bought used, rather than custom made for me. I found the Legend a bit overbuilt for someone of my size, perhaps that was a factor too. And lastly, the Merlin just plain fits me better, which is always nice. In the end, I guess it boils down to fit and versatility.

You can give me crap for all you want, I can take it. The fact of the matter is whether here or anywhere else, I have never claimed or confessed to be a bike snob, and if anything, I am more of a slacker and I like to stay that way. As far as someone of refined tastes, again, nothing is further from the truth. If you don't believe me, take a look at this thread, it should remove every doubt in your mind. And here's a horror picture that should scar you for life.

I finally remembered to take a picture today on my ride...

Mosaic RT-1D with Sram Etap HRD and NEXT wheels with i9 hubs. I bought the frame, fork, BB, seatpost and stem from Cornfed who got it from Ebaumann who got it from Aaron himself (there may be another owner in there - I don't know).

Bike fits me perfectly and rides like a dream. I also have a Seven Axiom but I can only run 25mm tires on there - this bike (barely) fits 28's on wide rims. Super fast, great through the corners and because of the 28's I can ride it on the many, many terrific dirt roads we have here in Northern Vermont.

Posting for a Buddy - New Lynskey R-250

(Apologies for making you turn your head to look at the pix! I haven't been able to figure out how to turn them around.)

One of my buddies has been looking for a ti bike for a while and in his search, found that Lynskey was having a sale on their 2017 models. He picked up an R-250 with an Enve 2.0 fork and CC headset for under $2k, about $1k off the normal price.

He moved all of the bits from his old (and very worn out) Madone including Force 22 drive train.

He and I have ridden a couple of times and he's very pleased with the result. Goes when you spur it, on rails downhill, and he found that "sweet spot" we all love.

I hadn't seen a newer Lynskey in the wild and this frame is very nice. I thought the welds were VG to EX...not as nice as my Legend though but pretty darned good craftsmanship.

The options he chose, industrial mill finish and etched graphics (and the Enve fork) were spot on. We gave it polish and a wax and it really looks nice.

So glad to hear it, Dave. Looks great! Just needs a new name sticker! (Velocals is your friend...)

dean el-diente added to the fleet earlier this year

yet to be built up, accumulating parts slowly, going with an alphaQ EX fork. picked up a 3T funda-pro, but that fork was too "heavy" looking.

My first Ti bike. Pretty low zoot compared to everything else in the thread, but I like the way it rides and will I think be my “gateway” to more Ti down the road.

This was on a visit to my wife’s 3rd grade classroom.

Ti and black, wide rims, tanwalls... looks pretty darn fine to me, no matter what the zoot level is.
