I have to read up on the route a bit. Anything special about this year's race?

I had to research briefly.

7 sprint stages
7 "hilly" stages
4 of them are mountain finishes
"long" TT
long-ish prologue
no TTT

Starts in Holland, I think 2 full stages there.

Wow the long TT is 59 km. This is almost like back in the Lemond days.

That is absolutely a step in the right direction, if you ask me.

Not quite back to the Coppi era when they had (1949 for instance) 137km individual TT through the mountains AND a 92km ITT.

I'd love to see some of the pure climbers neutered a bit with more and longer ITTs. Maybe they'll use the strade bianche route as well.

maybe I'll try my luck again...

Last TDF I told my buddy who is slightly interested about this but not a cyclist. I thought it would be fun to compete with him and show him the ropes from the POV of a longtime cyclist and bike racing enthusiast.

I gave him tips on strategy, team selection, etc.
He kicked my butt, finishing like 13th overall while I was 3rd from the bottom!

Ha Ha HA Ha

Yes, since there are some people I will be cheering for, and the people I pick always perform dreadfully, I opted to abstain from this contest so as not to put the hex on them this year.
