Help identify this Peugeot?
What kind of Peugeot is this?
Are these any good? I couldn't find much info on Huret components, how crappy are they? |

I can pick this up for a low price, but it doesn't look as beautiful as the earlier 60's-70's frames built up with campy that sometimes pop up...
I'm debating whether or not to pull the trigger or wait for something more high end, though this one does look quite complete which is a good start. Perhaps with a bit of elbow grease and replacing those tires/that bar tape, it could be interesting if the frame and components are anything noteworthy...? What do you all think? I know little to nothing about these frames or these components... |

That is a pretty basic model, about a notch or maybe two above the base model. Early 1980’s. If you are looking at older bikes with Campagnolo components etc., I would hold off on this one. Compared to the higher end bikes of that era, this one lacks nice butted tubing in the frame, and it has pretty basic components. Another issue with French bikes can be component sizing. When this bike was produced, Peugeot went from all French sized/threaded components to some ( often with a Swiss bottom bracket) to BSC threading/sizing in just a span of a few years. I love nice French bikes from that time period and am not afraid of some of the quirky parts ( at least quirky in the US), but you really don’t want to deal with that trouble and expense except for the swankiest machines.

Does it have any kind of label to indicate the tubing?

I used that rear derailleur on my touring bike for years handled range real well.
Other than that, basic bike, wouldn't spend more than 100 on it |

FWIW these 80's Peugeots were widely used as daily workhorses when I was a bike messenger in college. Nothing special, if you found out what the tubing was it might even scare you off, but they were tanks that rode fast and stood up to Chicago winters. I wouldn't hesitate to get one as a commuter, but if you're thinking something L'eroica worthy I would keep looking.

As others have said, it is mid-level at best. Back when it was sold, it's likely it was very expensive. That's why Peugeot and the other big European brands didn't survive. It's probably new enough to have a Swiss threaded bb. I don't think I would ever buy a French bike, it's annoying to have to find weird parts all the time.

Might be worth $75 or more on eBay.
