Tinariwen performing "Sastanàqqàm" Live on KCRW (LA)
This band is so great, especially live in a small club. I've seen a video where they played with Flea and Klinghoffer from RHCP...it was OK, but not so special. I think if they got together with Los Lobos some real magic could happen. . . |

Love me some Mingus.
I just downloaded the Stones' Exile on Main St. this morning to listen to during my commute for the next few days (no bike commuting due to weather.) I justified the purchase because: It's supposed to be one of the greatest rock albums of all time, I've been really enjoying Keith's solo stuff recently, and Sticky Fingers which came out the year before, was a fantastic album, IMO. I'm underwhelmed so far by both the production and the songs - almost annoyed, even. Can't stand the multi-tracking of Mick's voice and the Chuck Berry throwback material wears quickly. Tumbling Dice is the lone standout so far, but I already knew that from growing up with FM radio. I'm only 5 songs in, so hopefully it'll get better. |

Went to a great live show in Austin last weekend by Greyhounds.
Their live album is great....incredible sounds from a trio of organ/guitar/drums. Greyhounds - Heaven on Earth |

If you dig this style of music, or at least appreciate it, you will love this. It's by Nitin Sawhney.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jJJHfL1yQA Turn up the volume, and after opening the video, close your eyes right away and picture what the female singer looks like. Then open your eyes after a minute or two...betcha do a double take. Niki Wells is the vocals. Angelic voice. Some serious, immensely talented musicians here. The bassist (Mohini Dey) is incredible, and still just a "kid." Drummer reminds me of Jojo Mayer's style of play. Last edited by 54ny77; 03-25-2018 at 05:05 PM. |

These guys play in Austin tomorrow night and I'm REALLY looking forward to the show. It's funny that the first post in this thread references Page. This band is channeling that Zeppelin mojo:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jYmzW9dqA6A Greta Van Fleet. These guys TEAR IT UP!!! Another link to some of their earlier recordings - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=75qijwKUXMU . The band members were in their mid-teens when they did these songs. A little rough around the edges, but I love it! Texbike Last edited by texbike; 05-02-2018 at 11:51 AM.
