A neat little web series about a college kid trying to Rally on a budget...

Quote:
Ryan Symancek introduces his new mini series by finding a car to rally. It has to be something cheap, easy to work on in a college parking lot, and has to be somewhere in the east coast of the United States. Ryan and some friends in college look to the internet to find a car that, with $2000, could propel them into the motorsport know as SCCA Rallycross. With many somewhat good and worthless options on Craigslist, Ryan settles to look further into three cars: a Volvo 242, a VW Rabbit GTI, and a Nissan Sentra SE-R. The SE-R ended up being a favorite, but also impossible to find for sale in a short period of time. With some help from Broken Motrosports, Ryan opted for an old favorite... The Subaru WRX.

Edit: BTW, the best part of this series is when he goes to New Zealand in episode three & four and meets some cool pro and amateur Rally folks.

OT: For the Car Folk/Gear Heads...

The Audi Sport Quattros are my all time favorite car. I had the pleasure of rebuilding one the the road versions. It was quite an amazing car.

Talking heads, but still interesting...

Will Ford's New GT Live Up to Its Predecessors?

Quote:
Ford has officially launched its new Ford GT, somewhat secretly in Detroit a few weeks ago. Spinelli talks with Mike and Zac from Classic Car Club Manhattan (past owners of three different Ford GT's) about whether the new one will live up to the legend of the old.

Some crazy pics and stories at http://motormavens.com/2012/06/rally...k-their-lives/

Quote:
This photo encapsulates the madness of rally spectators. You can see four layers of spectators in the tree but there is only one level. The guy at the top has obviously lost it completely, the second guy is only at his position because the first guy got to the top of the tree first and that goes for the third and the fourth guy, and so on, all the way to the bottom! Be guaranteed there was a race to get to the top of that tree! This would have been a common sight along the entire stage in Portugal for Timo Salonen in the Peugeot 205 T16. Salonen once reported having almost hit a spectator. The truth was that, in fact, he had, as the unfortunate soulē—“ finger was found by a Peugeot Sport mechanic lodged in the grill of the T16.

For 2016, Rally America has changed the rules and added a new National Limited Open class which should bring some interesting competitors to rallies here in the US. I see Subaru going to 2.5 and Ford's (Ken Block's) return to the US to campaign the new Ford RS. Should be a killer year!

If you haven't followed American rallies, binge watch "Launch Control" on YouTube.

Also, if one of the rallies is in your area, volunteer! It's a lot of fun! I ran the start line of 2 stages of the Ojibwe Forest Rally last year. Counting down 5-4-3-2-1-Go! for all the rally cars and interacting with the drivers/co-drivers was such a rush!

I've been watching "Launch Control" on the Drive Channel lately when I'm on the Erg. A very well produced show on Rally in the U.S.

That Volvo listed above was certainly a slow car. I had its predecessor in college the 142

...but it was an absolute TANK
