Quintessential porsche

since we have had so many porsche threads recently i thought i would chime in with what i consider the most quintessential porsche ever. so understated but yet a wolf in sheeps clothing. a porsche gt2. i am sure tame in todays world of super cars but back then a street legal race car with a top speed of 184mph:

I was always partial to the '84-86 930's, preferably the '84 Euro spec version with the 325hp output engine and 173mph top speed. Quite the machine for the year Back to the Future came out and IMO, timeless classic good looks...

GT2s are a fine choice, and steeply increasing in price, particularly the 993, and presumably the RS 964s. I should have said yes to a 993 for $20k back in 2009, such is life.

IMO, the 3 most quintessential street cars that Porsche has made are:

-356 Speedster (pick your year - the earlier the better!)
-Early 70s Carrera RS
-930 (pick your year - the earlier the better!)

If you want to add cars that were more track-oriented, add the following:

-550 RS
-904
-935

Oh, and I guess you could add the 959 to either list as well.

There you go!

Many moons ago, having been a passenger of a 935 and some other German 6 cyl. air-sucking, white-knuckle experiences, there is NOTHING since then that comes even close to the visceral thrill. Each year their liquid cooled fleet of appliances gets nicer leather, heavier, faster and more gee-whiz.

If I had plenty of spare sheckles sitting around, I'd take an '89 G50-equipped 930 that was lovingly cared for (and driven) over any brand spankin' new Porsche. Hands down.
