seems Trek dropping pricing on framesets

Last year retail was around 2400 on Domane SL disc frameset. Those are on sale for 1400 and 2018 ones retailing at 1500 or so. That's a striking drop in MSRP...don't ya think?

The availability of sub $2000 (or lower even) frame sets from the big brands would be a welcome trend for the budget-minded, like myself.

I think the major players are going to have start responding to the downward price pressure, especially now that Canyon is entering the US market.

And once they have amortized the cost of molds they can afford to reduce prices while still making good profits.

I think so. That would be a defensive strategy. Plus, they don't have to pay Contador after this season.

Is the Domane the only model that has had a price drop? Perhaps they are down-spec'ing this model for marketing reasons (i.e. reducing the spec. standards for cost savings to meet a different price point).

I believe the price on the Emonda and Madone framesets have dropped as well.

Pricing across the board is down for Trek this year. Nearly everything in the road lineup has gone down from last year

Top line Emonda frame sets are now $3k rather than $4k and bikes have all either had a spec bump, price drop, or both

Top end Emonda is no longer made in USA.

Also frame no longer comes with seat mast topper or bb at that price-

Thats too bad, I wasn't aware. I thought all 700series Trek Framesets were still made in Wisconsin which would be SLR Emondas, and Race Shop Limited Domane and Madones.

I don't believe any Trek framesets shipped with topper or BB, usually they hit you for that extra. I know with my Boone, there was none included

Speaking of Race Shop Limited, it looks like Trek is no longer offering this option, which I assume means no more H1 fit. Anyone know if this is the case? Strange as they recently announced a new Domane RSL Disc Degenkolb special edition.

H1 fit is still around via Project 1 orders with various personalization options. They're pushing this a lot more this year and it is a $500 upcharge, but you can spec out much more than just geometry options and "have it your way"

they're clearing things out now because next year's frame will be 23.2% better, stronger, faster.

Cool ... I see it now under "Frame Options -> Fit" on the Project One microsite.

The Project One option adds $500 and then the Pro Endurance (H1) fit adds another $1000 as it upgrades the OCLV from 600 to 700.

Thx
