Cyclecross Halloween?

I've been seeing Velonew's photo coverage of various CX races in the States. What's with the costumes? Some of them are hilarious!

Is this a long running history with CX in the States? Anyone know how/when it started?

I'm not ragging on it! It seems to allow a lot of people to participate in the race without worring about the "cool" factor. Even the winners seem to be in the spirit. Way cool!

I'm a big fan of costumes as well. It's good for your ego to get dropped by someone in a full blown angry bird costume...including a huge fake head.

Makes you realize how unimportant your grasp on 32nd place in the Cat 4 Mens Masters race really is.
