Sunglasses for a 12yo

My son had some cheap Easton sunglasses he wore playing baseball. Those broke and now he wants a "real" pair. Any suggestions outside of the Oakley/Under Armour brands that anyone has experience with, that maybe aren't super expensive? Would like to stay around $50-ish if possible.

And FWIW, baseball sunglasses are essentially the same as cycling glasses. Wrap around sports shades. He has been looking at Oakley Quarter Jackets.

I'm in Toronto, Canada and I've had great success with Mountain Equipment Co-op's $28CAD sports sunglasses for my 12 year old. Note last time around I got wise and bought two pairs as they tend to get lost quickly!

Our youngest son is a lifeguard and lives with sunglasses on his head all summer.

my 10yr old daughter has the child Under armour sunglasses for softball and she loves them. Good quality and dont break the bank. I'm sure cheaper options would do just fine as well. The problem I found with all the cheaper versions is the arms were too long and made it impossible for her to wear with her face mask and helmet. keep an eye out for that.

Just be mindful of avoiding sunglasses from non-reputable sellers. UV ray protection is important. Fake ones can be marked as if they have UV protection, but may actually not have it. If the glasses don't have it, I understand it's worse than wearing no glasses at at, as the darkened lens will cause your pupils to open up, letting in more UV rays than you otherwise would without any glasses. That can cause problems down the road.

Call me paranoid, but I didn't want to risk that for my kid, and ended up getting him a pair of Oaklely Quarter Jackets from an authorized retailer.

My guess is that a 12yo is internet savvy? If so I say just set a budget and let him find a pair he likes within that number.

You can find real oakleys, used on a lot of websites. If the kid is responsible spending a $100 for a good used pair is a good investment. You might find them for less if they need nose pads or ear socks.
