but gotta love Keith Richards quote "Chuck had the swing. There's rock, but it's the roll that counts."

Agree 100%.

Without Jimi and Albert King there wouldn't have been SRV. That doesn't take away anything from anyone of those people, it just shows the lineage. Same with Ritchie Blackmore to Yngwie to Vai and Satriani. They are all great.

Chuck was great. I don't see how anyone can honestly think I do not think that. And I prefer Chuck to T Bone. I played "Oh Carol" at my wedding. It's a rocking tune. Ymmv.

And the other King, Freddie...I hear him too when I hear SRV. Probably something to do with Texas.

I was in a music drought--and the first SRV tune I heard, I went out and bought the CD...

Have a great day.
Apologies if I misread, but it really came across as "Chuck cribbed everything from T-Bone, just go listen to T-Bone and you'll get a sense of Chuck's creativity, which is to imply there wasn't much of it."

And, uh, politics got nuthin to do with it.

Unrelated, but the recent thread shift made me think of: The Rutles: Cradle of the Blues

Actually, when I listen to SRV, I hear a guy who borrowed from and paid a nod to Albert King and Jimi, but who has clearly transcended the influence of these guys. When I hear Chuck Berry, all I seem to hear is T-Bone, or at least it is so pervasive in almost every song.

Y'all need to read up on and listen to Johnnie Johnson.
Without him, I doubt if there'd have been the Chuck Berry that all remember.
