No fluff in this one. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietna...vision_History
But apparently, the Ministry of Truth has dropped some of this Journalistic Masterpiece down the Memory Hole. I don't know if the original version is available anywhere. Last edited by classtimesailer; 09-27-2017 at 05:34 PM. |

It was. The law is clear. A private citizen cannot work back channel diplomacy against the government. Nixon/Kissinger were commiting a crime. Irony is that some argue their success in this would lead to Watergate I believe there is still not a smoking gun in Reagan’s situation...yet.? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Way OT: PBS Vietnam Series
Freedom of the Press & leaks. All sounds so familiar? Oh & they failed to mention Ellsberg earned a commission in the Marine Corps. He’s one of the more fascinating characters of the age.

I've been listening to this series while working on the house this week. The original score by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross is amazing (I just saw NIN, have a little fan bias). Great headphone/riding sounds. Spotify link:

I thought it was excellent - sad, tragic, heartbreaking and shocking - 3 million Vietnamese died - 58,220 Americans died and for what?

Just watched Episode 4..2 quotes I wrote down...
"Difficult to dispel ignorance if you retain arrogance" "If you can't count what's important, you make what you can count, important" The more things change, the more they stay the same.

I doubt anyone watching the final episode last night had a dry eye during the segment on the Memorial Wall.
Seemed like an appropriate conclusion to a tragic story.

I was thinking that even though I was a toddler at the end of the war if one of my brothers had been drafted (they were in college at the beginning of the 70s) and then wounded I would be really mad after watching this series.
In my mind politicians are supposed to go out of their way to keep peace and justice rather than prolong it to further their own glory. I think I can better feel why so many people older than me feel such distrust and distaste for politicians. I always knew they played with he truth but this seems to make it clear that they really value their own power and make crazy decisions in an effort to keep it.
