another rack question: sorry

So, it seems like I actually can mount a receiver on my wagon, which is great news. The less great news is that my Kuat rack, which I love, is heavy enough that my wife finds it frustrating. Educate me about 1up racks, please: are there downsides to them as compared to Kuat racks? And are there places that sell them for reasonable prices? Or is full retail pretty much as good as it gets?

Thanks again for you help.

I got mine directly from 1UP. I don't think they sell through a distribution network. So full retail but worth it.

Sherpas weigh less than NVs

...and IIRC you can get the 1 1/4" bar if they won't do a 2" receiver on the car

If lightweight is the criteria, then the Saris Thelma is the answer

Which Kuat do you have? The Sherpa is quite light at 32 pounds.

I've got the NV 2.0. Maybe I'll look for a Sherpa. Thanks!

Yeah, the 1up you pretty much get from 1up. A single rack bike rack weighs about 26.5 lbs. A double rack weighs a bit more, closer to 40 lbs, I think.

I'm not sure why I didn't think of this. It's the perfect solution. Thanks!

I have the 1up for about 2 weeks and super happy with the purchase. Yes it's more than others but well worth it. Great design, very compact and folds up right against the rear. Even fits on my Jeep with an oversized spare and folds down out of the way for rear cargo area access. The Heavy Duty 2 bike model is easily moveable between vehicles and the hitch locking mechanism is simple and secure. It's a great USA designed item.

Yep! Very compact and folds up real nice! Fits neatly in a trunk as well.

Just a tip too if you end up ordering, look at their accessory locks etc. because if you order any of the locking products all at the same time they will be keyed the same. A lot more convenient.
