Check your bars

I have a set of 3t bars purchased here a couple years ago that had some dimpling at the stem clamp when I got them. I went a different route at the time and was thinking about using them so today removed the paint to double/triple check the bars and they are cracked, ever so slightly.

I spoke to the seller when I bought them and was offered to send them back and as he was confident that it was just compression of the paint. I decided to keep them at the time so it's on me at this point and not the end of the world.

Moral is, check your bars periodically as you never know, and a bar failure is something I never want to experience.

I sure hope that the seller sees your post.

Inspecting bars is a good idea, even alloy.

I had a bar snap on my cx bike, luckily during practice and more luckily it gave warning before I found myself riding to a stop with the right half loose in my hand.
Never trust a crashed or used carbon bar, I bought one that had weakness along the bend and was wasted money, luckily I never rode it. Seller didn't tell me either.

The moral of the story here is if you can't risk having a part fail, don't buy used.

Are those carbon bars?

Not to derail, I posted something along the same line about Al bars.

Carbon bars + stems = one of the times when torque wrenches matter.

Just tighten the bars til they click then back it off a quarter turn.

Pretty much anything can fail, it doesnt matter whether bought new or used. Be safe was my message. If someone wants to make up their own about buying used vs. new that's their call.

Sure does look like a crack in the photo.

Curious, if you tap the bar with say a nickle (hang the bar with a rope), does it sound different around the clamp area.
