External Battery suggestions needed for Wahoo Elemnt Bolt

All,

I have a long ride coming up where I will exceed the capacity of the battery in my Wahoo Bolt.

I'm unsure of what external battery source to buy. Please help!

Thanks!
Jeff

I've used an Aniket lipstick battery and handlebar quick mount designed to hold similarly shaped front lights. Short USB cable. Works well but not for really wet conditions.

ahh, good thread. i am also interested for my garmin.

what are some options that are reasonably weather proof. doesnt need to be waterproof really, just able to handle a little rain if it happens.

I use a two fish holder on my stem and a lipstick battery. I think they are 2600mAh. That is twice the size of a garmin battery, so it gets me through a 400k. I start charging at the beginning of the ride so the battery doesn't have to charge at a high charge rate. Some people wait until the device needs to be charged, but I think that's not a good strategy. I've never had much of a problem with rain. If you are going to get soaked, some dielectric grease on the contacts would be a good idea.

I put rubber bands on both ends of the lipstick battery so it doesn't slip out of the holder. I have had that happen.

Not sure about Wahoo but I don't think the Garmin USB ports are very water resistant.

If you don't want to affix to the stem, an Anker lipstick battery in a top tube bag leaves enough room for a relatively short cable run on my bike. I like a bigger top tube bag for 400-600ks because I also stash my brevet card in it and snack out of it. I believe my batter is 3900 mAH which can charge my PC8 three times.

The Wahoo Element Bolt battery is listed as having a charging life of 15hrs. From personal experience, that's pretty accurate. What kind of ride are you doing? How much juice do you need?

Thanks for the suggestions. I will order an Anker today.

A friend and I are attempting the Everest challenge soon: http://www.everesting.cc/the-rules/

It will most likely take us longer than 15hrs and I don't want to lose data.

My camera has a 1500 mah battery which gives me about 2.5 hours of recording time.
I picked up a 2600 mah lipstick battery for $7 and used a Twofish pump block to clamp it under my stem.
Instead of the velcro strap the Twofish comes with, I use two zip ties to secure the battery and a Serfas rubber strap and Cateye hook as a quick release.
I got a 6" Mini USB cable from my local outdoor gear shop for free to connect to the camera.

Haven't timed it but it's given me more than 4 hours of power with both camera battery and lipstick powerbank charged up.

I was about to mold something from Sugru but already had the Twofish.
