Stannard. He's going to get over the top one of these times given how he rides.

Ok, I agree. Though Sep has been in the final selection at RvV and PR, so it's not like he hasn't been near the top. On paper, I think Cannondale's classics team looks the most improved from last year. So, I do hope they put something together.

I am just excited to see what strategies the teams use with their 2017 classics squads. I'm wondering how many times we'll hear "Sagan is isolated in this front group, so he had to make a move." I think his team is no where near good enough to support him, but we'll see.

Did any of Sagan's classics wins come at the behest of his team? Sako-tinkoff weren't exactly a juggernaut on the cobbles.

Yes!
I didn't see a listing on Eurosport for the Omloop. Did you?

Edit, yay! http://www.cyclingweekly.co.uk/news/...v-guide-213173

You are asking if his team asked him to win bicycle races?

Yes.

They did.

Yes, exactly. He has done ok with a weak team in the past. That is what I was referring to, when he's isolated, he has to make something happen himself. We saw Cancellara in similar positions, and still do well. But, it is still a tactical disadvantage to be isolated -- usually the only way to win out of that situation is to be strong as an ox.

What're we counting as classics now? Wheelies in front of the team bus don't count as classics wins.

2013 & 2016 Ghent Wevelgem
2016 Tour of Flanders

That makes three classics wins in my book. Only one monument yes but, let's not forget, we can add two World Championships to the list.

Apologies, I forgot the second Gent Wevelgem.

So three. One semi-classic twice and a Monument. Wow, tearing it up. Greatest rider in a generation.

Surely his team's fault.

I do share your sentiment. He is a media star and that certainly helps his perceived quality in the wider world.

Sagan is entering his ninth season as a pro now and here are his major wins:

WC 2015- 2016
RVV 2016
GW 2013 2016
GP E3 2014
TDF 7 stage wins and five green jerseys.

Now compare to Tom Boonen at the same point in his career:

WC 2005
RVV 2005 2006
GW 2004
PRbx 2005 2008 2009
GP E3 2004 2005 2006 2007
TDF 6 stage wins and one green jersey

Hmmm...
