These are not iconic pictures per se, but stills from "stars and watercarriers". Fuentes feeling nothing but pain after the finish line, Ritter in his hotel room bed, after the same stage. They were contenders, but got outclassed by Merckx for 10 resp. 8 minutes in a single stage, early at the Giro.

These pictures always encapsulated for me what competitive cycling also can be.

During the 2004 TDF, Livestrong Lance, chased down a harmless break containing Simeoni. Personally, this served as confirmation of his doping and bullying.
