eBay Shenanigans - Serotta Colorado

Just an FYI if this shows up again on eBay, the seller contacted me and said they would not honor the auction and asked for $950 + $125 shipping. Bummer as there are not a lot of bikes in my size. This one was older but in good shape.

Can you contact Ebay and open a dispute? I would try that Avenue. Did the seller give a reason?

I dealt with the same seller, experiencing some of what you are dealing with. FYI...he claims that he will sell just the f/f/HS for $675 plus shipping if you're really interested. I thought that was a bit of a premium but the frame appears to be in excellent condition. It's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, right?

Yeah, open a dispute. He should have used a reserve.

I did open a dispute. Overall this is the first problem I have had on eBay since the late 90s lol... so I can't whine too much and I didn't lose any money.

Just thought I would let people know if he relists.

How much did you win the auction for?

I had something similar happen on a guitar a long time ago. I was about to win it for about 40% of the value when the auction was mysteriously closed with about 20 minutes to go. The seller then relisted with a reserve price and offered it to me at that amount. I passed.

Chalk this one up to "moron seller" and move on

Ite issue is that the seller is a bad actor. Ebay needs to know this. I believe the winning auction bid constitutes a contract.

Dispute

Absolutely open a dispute. A bid is a legally binding contract for both parties. Let eBay mediate. My guess is the seller will comply. Looks like he sells a fair amount and I doubt he'd want to risk his 100% rating for a few dollars.

Good luck!

Agreed. Suggest you open a case, they typically side with the buyer.

Check the inside of the frame for rotten fish or other surprises if the seller is forced to sell it to you...

i've had that happen many times winning bids and seller backs out presumably because he wanted more. opening a dispute goes nowhere. contract or not, if you didn't spend any money they wont do much.

I had a similar situation, but I guessed early on that the price was a mistake. The seller was a bricks & mortar bike shop and someone entered the wrong price when it was listed. They said they would honor the price if pushed, but I told them it was ok to rescind the sale. It would have felt unethical of me to take advantage of someone's egregious error. I didn't need the item, otherwise I might have asked for a discount from what the intended sale price.

This.

eBay doesn't G.A.S if no money changed hands. I sold an item, invoiced the winner or the auction, never paid. Looked at his feedback and saw a long history of similar transactions. Apparently he decides he wants something, bids on a bunch of them then actually pays for whichever comes in cheapest. Still at it as nearly as I can tell and eBay hasn't done $hit.

And yes, I did open a dispute/file a claim/whatever. Got me nowhere and I ended up relisting the item where it sold for less than the original scumbag had bid, and less than the top 3 losing bids.

The seller's product description is a long run-on sentence. To me that's an indicator of a seller that's clueless as well as having a greater potential for shady dealings. It's ALL in the details, and I wouldn't bid for his offerings for that reason.
