Instagram edits and shares photos. It's sort of like Twitter but with pictures instead of words. And yes you can absolutely view it with out being a member but it is much easier if you are a member. If you have Facebook, that will work as a login for Instagram is well by linking the accounts.

Exactly. Without an account, you can still view user's photo collections by going to their instagram page (always www.instagram.com/username). But with an account, you can set up a constantly updating feed of photos by "following" people you like. And its quite easy to follow and unfollow people, depending on if you like their content or not.

Try making an account and following people you are interested in (fellow paceliners, other cyclists, etc..) and see if it sticks.
