Glad you're OK. It may be time to start running real tires, not that skinny 25mm s--t

When you run over sharp edged things you may get a pinch flat, its a natural consequence. Watch were you're going, maybe ride just a tiny bit slower and keep a sharper look out. That's the message to take from this event.

Lucky me, living here, clean roads and pot holes filled. generally. As noted, I have descended that section hundreds of times no issues. but now I am forewarned. It's gotta be some kind of miracle I didnt roll a tire(s) off and stash it. Thanks everyone for their thoughts. I'm glad I was aware of this scenario and what to do. From reading this forum and others. never thought I'd have to put it into practice at that speed though. Hope no one else has to encounter a sudden change in ride enjoyment like this. |

The other takeaway should be: avoid hillside roads which see a lot of tour buses.

What's *really* fun is hitting a pothole on a descent and not only flatting both tires but denting both rims . . .

I pulled out to pass a rider and caught a chunk of concrete, cost me front tire, tube and rim along with spokes to be cautious. It also cut the rear tire and broke a couple spokes in the rear wheel. UGH. Great ride day finished early. Had to call my son for a pick up, glad I didn't go down.

wow, that's a tricky stop. i'll assume you had a good runout cuz that could have been real bad with cross traffic. but that stuff just happens. you can't 'equipment' your way out of everything, sometimes it's just your turn.
be sure to inspect those rims. going that long on flat tires could easily do a number on the outer edges. easily scratches off any anno, could also leave burs or dents leading to sidewall flats later on. |
